WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 -- Sparring With Beatnik Ghosts @  
Santa Cruz Art League - Broadway Playhouse (526 Broadway) in Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz Art League & Poetry Santa Cruz are co-sponsors of Poetry Festival Santa Cruz on 2/12/12 @ Cocoanut Grove. Every 3rd Wednesday, there will be a Sparring With Beatnik Ghosts reading at the Art League -- with proceeds benefiting SCAL and SWBG/Poetry Festival Santa Cruz. $5 donation requested at the door.

The 9/21 Spar will feature the following local poets: Barbara Bloom, Rosie King,
Ron Lampi, Lisa Allen Ortiz, Doren Robbins, Donald Young. There will also be an open-mic segment. Sign-up to read at 6:30. Show starts at 7 p.m.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 -- 100 Thousand Poets For Change -- Santa Cruz

 Sparring With Beatnik Ghosts will be hosting the Santa Cruz installment of
100 THOUSAND POETS FOR CHANGE on Saturday, September 24 ·1 P.M. (doors open/ open mic sign-up at 12:30) @ Louden Nelson Community Center (301 Center Street, Room 5, Santa Cruz, CA). Everyone is invited to this free event.

Features include Robert Sward, Patria Brown, Fernando D. Castro, Ariel Holden,
Ruebi Lynn Jimenez, Charles Kruger, Brian Morrisey, Jim Russo, Mordecai Shapiro
and T. Mike Walker. Hosted by Yaryan.

This historic event will take place all over the planet in hundreds of locations. Let's show the world that Santa Cruz's voice wants to be heard and has something to say. The event is FREE and open to the entire public.

Sparring With Beatnik Ghosts
& Nickelodeon Theatres present:
A Santa Cruz premiere of "Ferlinghetti"
at the Del Mar Theatre on Tuesday, October 18, 7 p.m.
Lawrence Ferlinghetti will appear LIVE at
the show, along with "Ferlinghetti" Director/Producer Christopher Felver. www.chrisfelver.com

The poet and writer Lawrence Ferlinghetti is an iconic presence in the world of arts and letters. For well over half a century he has helped shape the currents of poetry and literature through his forceful engagement with society. Armed with an ideological position that often found him at odds with the political dogma of his day, Ferlinghetti became the best-selling poet of the modern era, a literary mercenary and a rebel at the forefront of a cultural revolution.

In this definitive documentary, director Christopher Felver crafts an incisive, sharply wrought portrait that reveals Ferlinghetti’s true role as catalyst for numerous literary careers and for the Beat movement itself.

Mayor Ryan Coonerty is proclaming October 18th as "Lawrence Ferlinghetti Day" in Santa Cruz. Councilwoman Katherine Beiers will join Mayor Coonerty in delivering the proclamation at the Del Mar Theatre on the night of the showing of the "Ferlinghetti" documentary. Other special guests will be in attendence.
